Hospital C-Section Honor Roll and Maternal Care Quality Indicators, 2018

In collaboration with the California Maternity Quality Care Collaborative (CMQCC) and CalHospitalCompare.org, OSHPD’s 2018 C-Section Honor Roll data visualization gives an overview of the 240 hospitals that offer maternity services in California with stars indicating the 122 hospitals named to the 2018 C-Section Honor Roll.

To respond to a rapid rise in unnecessary C-Sections across the United States, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services adopted the Healthy People 2020 target of reducing nationwide C-Section rates for low-risk, first-births to 23.9 percent.

In addition, maternal care performance indicators are presented for each individual hospital for 2017 and 2018 when available. These maternal care quality indicators include vaginal birth after C-section rates, breast feeding rates, and episiotomy rates.

All ratings are based on prior year data.
